089: Bishop Lab
Created by Kate Bishop and Sarah Caswell
Our lab, in the Virology Division, works on retroviruses. The most widely known retrovirus is human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that causes AIDS. Globally, 35 million people are currently living with HIV. Therefore we chose to depict HIV on our canvas. The beads and sequins represent different viral proteins that make up each viral particle. The blue stitching represents the lipid envelope that surrounds each virion. The red ribbon is the universal symbol of awareness and support for those living with HIV.
